Making Meaning in the Marrketplace

The American Crafts council hosted Making Meaning in the Marketplace again this year at SCAD. The theme was Post Digital Crafts. Featured artists were fibers artist Dena Molna and jewelry artist Courtney Starrett. I had the honor to get to be a workshop assistant for Courtney’s full day workshop on Digital Dialogues. The students brought a table with statistics that was then visualized through ‘Processing’ the students then changed the code of the visualization until it fit what they liked aesthetically. They then exported the image of their data into illustrator and made even more changes to it. They turned this into a file that could be lasercut. We then lasercut their data visualizations onto felt and installed them into the Fahm hall gallery space. It was a great experience. I got to learn some of Processing and I got to get my teacher on helping student with their work and making their files laser cutter ready. Check out the blog from the workshop at
