Ye Old Kiwi



I had some Kiwi’s left over from the Perk last Monday so I needed to use them up. I saw a picture of a kiwi walnut muffin on pinterest and the search was on for a recipe. I found it on and made a batch up right away. I used bread flour instead of wheat flour because that was all I had at home.They turned out nice although the recipe says it will make 10 muffins and I only got 8 cupcakes. I will add a sweet glaze, or sugar the tops next time I make these they were just slightly bland.


1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
Dash salt
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
2 kiwifruit, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup walnuts


make sure to melt the butter, otherwise the muffins will be dry. Also, probably chop the kiwi smaller than I did… it tastes really good, but makes moist spots in the muffin that started to mold faster than the rest.


In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients. In another bowl, beat the egg, milk and butter. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in kiwi and walnuts. Fill paper-lined muffin cups three-fourths full. Bake at 425 degrees F for 15-18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack.

Serving Size: makes 10 muffins


It was also a family game night so we played name 5 one of our new favorite games. You get a category like “purple foods” or “M*A*S*H characters” and have to name five in 30 seconds. It’s great fun even for a grown family.
